BTRG offers genotyping tests for identification of trout (Salmo sp.) and grayling (Thymallus thymallus) origin.

Evolutionary lineages of Salmo trutta complex (Danubian, Atlantic, Adriatic and Mediterranean), marble trout (S. marmoratus), softmouth trout (S. obtusirostris) and hybrids between aforementioned lineages and species can be determined.

Genetic purity of the Adriatic grayling is also tested.

The tests are based upon diagnostic molecular markers, which have been mostly developed by BTRG, and include mitochondrial DNA, microsatellite DNA and array of nuclear DNA markers.

The genotyping is performed at population or individual level.

Costs of genotyping depend on the number of markers typed, which varies from case to case.

The genotyping of a single marker usually costs around 5 € (+20% VAT).
